Keep Choosing No Matter What! Staying committed to your goals
“Only those that sees the invisible can do the impossible.” -Unknown
I recently had a
conversation with a friend who was feeling frustrated and disappointed
in herself for not achieving her financial goals and her desire to marry
before age 35. As I listened to her talk about how hopeless she felt and
how she wondered if her life will ever look like how she imagines it, I
realized it’s wonderful to dream, but we all need tools to support us in
accomplishing those dreams. When we don’t have the support or the tools,
giving up on your dreams seem far more practical than taking mini steps
to achieve them.
In achieving our dreams we must first understand our role as the
visionary. The visionary believes in her capacity to create something
out of an idea. She has no proof other than how she feels; all she has
is the desire to create something not yet seen into something visible.
With that desire comes the thrill, the thrill of not knowing how it will
turn out, but knowing it will. I believe this knowingness, speak to our
capacity for greatness.
As you remain committed to pursuing what’s important, remember the
following:
1.Believing is seeing: We have been taught in our culture that seeing is
believing, but if we look at our lives more closely - we’ll see
believing is seeing. Anything that has ever been created started first
in thought, and the outcome is a result of that thought. Take for
instance, computers, stop lights, cars, all of these things are a result
of someone’s thought ultimately becoming a part of our reality.
2. Do one thing every day. As we define what is important to us we must
also schedule it into our daily lives. Taking action toward your goal
everyday keeps you committed and pull you closer to your goal. The
momentum that is created by taking action doesn’t allow room for doubt
or the impossible.
3. Speak it into being. Research has finally caught up with what we’ve
known all along - words are powerful, they carry energy and that energy
brings us closer to our goals or farther away from it. Being aware of
the conversations we have with ourselves is even more important than the
conversations we have with others.
4. Toleration -free. It is very difficult to remain committed to a goal
if our lives are overwhelming. Tolerations are those things that prevent
you from functioning at your best. For instance, a cluttered house,
debt, unhappy relationship, a job you hate, all of these things can
drain your energy and make the task of accomplishment a goal seem
unrealistic. So while, you’re trying to make that career transition,
organize that closet, resolve that bill, make those calls you’ve been
delaying, but above all make room for what really matters.
5. Develop your own fan-club. Anyone who has ever done something
worthwhile had people who supported and believed in them. Surround
yourself around people who believe in you and what you’re about. By this
I do not mean a “yes” team, but people who are independent thinkers,
optimistic, resourceful, and willing to present a new way of thinking
and being. We all need our own fan-club especially when we’re starting
something new.
6. Write a mission statement. A mission statement allows us to keep
focused on what’s important and it reminds us what we’re about, why
we’re here. It connects you with what you’re doing and who you’re being.
7. Give yourself a scheduled time out. Take time a side to check in with
yourself, are you creating what’s important, or are you allowing other
things to take precedent over what really matters. Check in with your
self, you are the only person who knows whether you’re truly happy or
not.
The steps outlined above could be taken simultaneously. There is no
sequence, the only consistent theme is in order to stay committed you
must keep choosing no matter what!
Keep Choosing Tools
This week pay attention to your thoughts. Thoughts are like magnets they
go out into the world and attract the substances that match them.
Your emotions energize your thoughts, the stronger your emotions the
quicker you create what you want. Because energy follows thought, it’s
more important to focus on what you do want instead of what you don’t
want. Whatever you focus on is what you get!
The moment you catch yourself thinking “maybe I need to just forget
about this replace with “I am committed to my goals and dreams.”
